Slugfest Ends in Phoenix Win

Phoenix, AZ-- Phoenix started quickly in the first, with 2 runs on 3 hits. After a 3-and-out for Houston, the Firedogs didn't skip a beat with 2 more in the second after a Michael Cantu triple. Starter Colm Boyer sprained his ankle while throwing a pitch, he was forced to leave the game. He is looking at 1 month of rehab, a call-up will likely be added before tomorrows game.

Houston answered with 2 of their own in the bottom half, making it 4-2. A Nate Sorensen three-run homer in the 4th expanded the lead. With 2 walks and 5 hits, Houston took the lead back with 7 runs in the bottom of the 4th.

A 6th inning solo homer by Matt wise cut the lead to 1. 2 walks and 3 hits led to 4 Phoenix runs in the 7th and regained the lead. Munoz extended the Phoenix lead with a 3-run homer in the top of the 9th, making it 15-9.

A three-run rally was too little too late for Houston in the bottom as the game closed out in a 15-12 Firedogs win.

Firedogs Go to Houston

Phoenix, AZ-- Phoenix travelled to Houston to open up the road season. The Firedogs got it going early with 3 runs in the 1st. David Mitchell picked up 2 more RBI's with a double. Wes Booth grounded out to second base to bring in Sorensen.

Houston answered in the bottom half with a leadoff single, followed by an error on the steal attempt. D. Tomason hit a sacrafice fly to make it 3-1.

Things were quiet until the bottom of the fifth, when F. Cota hit a solo homerun on an 0-2 mistake pitch by starter Ron Brooks.

David Mitchell helped out the team once again, drawing a leadoff walk. A sac bunt by Wes Booth moved him up a bag, and M. Cantu drove him in with a double to left. M. Wise kept it going in the 7th with a leadoff infield single, followed by 2 walks and yet another RBI base hit by Mitchell. Wes Booth was hot on his heels with 2 RBI's of his own. Felix Verond scored Mitchell from 3rd on a sac fly to make the score 8-2 in favor of the Firedogs.

Brooks struggled a bit in the bottom of the 7th, with a double and an RBI single to make it 8-3, but it was too little too late for the Blast. Ron finished strong with his second win of the season.

Firedogs Lose Big, Take 3 of 5 from New Orleans

Phoenix, AZ-- In his first start of the year, Angelo Roman had a rough time. With no help from his defense, one run came across in the 1st inning. 3 singles and a double brought four more home in the third, giving the 'Canes a 5-0 lead.

Things were quiet until the 5th, when the defense let down the bullpen, allowing another run to score. The firedog offense contiued to struggle as the game finished in a 9-0 shutout.

Phoenix Wins Again

Phoenix, AZ-- New Orleans opened up the scoring in the second with an Alfonso Fuentes two-run home-run.

A big third for the Firedogs helped them take the lead. Matt Wise took a 2-1 pitch over the wall, cutting the lead in half, but the inning was just getting started. A two-out RBI double tied it up, and Wes Booth hit a single to take the lead.

Things were quiet again until the 6th, a single, sacrafice bunt, and RBI single by RF Jeff Melton tied it up for the Hurricanes.

Phoenix answered right back in the bottom of the frame. With runners at 1st and 3rd and 2 outs, a throwing error allowed Felix Verond to score from 3rd, and take back a 4-3 lead.

Fill-in closer Frank Trent capped off his second save of the season, taking the Firedogs to 3-1.
