Eagles Lasso Cowboys in Blowout Win

Birds Rack Up More Than 50 Points for 2nd Consecutive Game

Philadelphia, PA (AP) - How 'bout them Cowboys?  The Eagles stomp their rivals at the Linc, as Michael Vick throws for more than 300 yards and Jeremy Maclin scores 4 touchdowns en route to a 52-6 blowout.

No DeSean Jackson?  Apparently, that's no problem for the Birds passing game, as Michael Vick was able to throw the ball all over the place in the dismantling of Dallas.

"I wouldn't say that we don't miss him," said Vick.  "It's just that everybody is stepping up, especially J-Mac.  He's burning those defensive backs all game long.  When he's that wide open, I'm gonna hit him.  J-Mac's done a great job.  And all of the guys, really, have been getting open.  That makes it real easy on me, just finding the right guy."

VIDEO HIGHLIGHT: The Eagles defense set the tone early, picking off Dallas QB Tony Romo on the first play of the game.

It's the second consecutive week that Vick has torched an NFC East rival's defense.  Two weeks ago in Washington, Vick threw for 297 yards and three scores.  Today against the Cowboys, he was even better.  He connected on 18 of 24 passes for 341 yards and 4 TD's.  And, both games were without DeSean Jackson on the field, who is expected to make a return next week when Philly battles the Bears.

"It's almost scary to think what could happen next week," said Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid.  "DeSean helps open a lot of things up for a lot of guys.  We've still had a lot of success, even without DeSean out there.  Now, with Michael hitting his stride, I think we can do a lot of good things with the passing attack."

The recepient of Vick's solid passing game today was primarily Jeremy Maclin.  The wideout absolutely torched Dallas defenders all game.  He only had 4 catches, but three of them were for touchdowns, including a 62 yard bomb late in the second quarter that really put the game out of reach.  Overall, Maclin had 137 yards receiving.  He also picked up a 26 yard touchdown run, giving him 4 scores and more than 160 yards from scrimmage for the day.

As has been the case all season long, the Philly defense stepped up in a big way.  The Eagles forced Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo into some tough situations with heavy pressure all game long.  Philly sacked Romo 7 times, including three by defensive end Cullen Jenkins.  The Birds also forced him to throw two interceptions, both going to corner back Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

VIDEO HIGHLIGHT: Jason Avant scores on a 25 yard pass from Vick, barely making it into the endzone.

"We did a great job getting Romo on the run and confusing him all game long," said Eagles Defensive Coordinator Juan Castillo.  "Cromartie had a great game early on.  He really set the tone making that tough interception on the first play of the game.  It's a shame we're going to miss him for a week."

Cromartie ended up breaking his ribs while trying to return a punt late in the third quarter.  He's expected to miss next week's game against Chicago.

Once again, the run defense was even more impressive than the passing defense.  Felix Jones only managed 36 yards on the ground, and the Cowboys as a whole could only gain 39 yards rushing.  Middle Linebacker Casey Matthews has been a big part of the run defense and has really made big strides in his rookie year.  He led the team with 9 tackles on the day.

"I'm really pleased with how Casey has come along," said Castillo.  "I know there was a lot of concern about him starting in this wide 9 technique, but he's really stepped up to the challenge, and I think he's got a bright future with us."

VIDEO HIGHLIGHT: Maclin's 62 yard bomb before half time proved to be a back breaker for Dallas.

Another area of domination that's really started to come through is Philadelphia's ability to score late in the first half.  They've scored some backbreaking touchdowns with less than two minutes left in the second quarter this year, and this game was no different.

Dallas was still hanging around late in the first half, trailing just 14-3 when Philly got the ball with 1:54 to go.  After an 18 yard pass to Steven Smith, Vick connected with Maclin for a 62 yard strike to go up 21-3.  The 80 yard drive only took two plays and 20 seconds off the clock.

The Eagles then forced the Cowboys to punt and got the ball with 0:46 left.  Instead of sitting on it, Reid decided to see what his team could make of it.  Philadelphia worked the clock to perfection, driving 80 yards on 6 plays, and needing just 30 seconds to do it.  Vick's five yard touchdown pass to Maclin put the game away for good, sending the Birds into halftime with a 28-3 lead.

"Those kinds of scores can be a killer," said Vick.  "We knew if we could get some points, it might break their spirit.  Those two quick scores at the end of the half really won the game for us."

The Eagles now look ahead to the Bears, who are 4-3, but sit a couple games out of first place.
