TOP STORY | April 20, 2012

TAMPA---  Nick Blackburn gave the Minnesota Twins six strong innings but it wasn't enough the Twins dropped their eighth straight game to the Tampa Bay Rays by a score of 3-2.

Blackburn allowed just three hits, one walk, and one hit batsman that led to two runs.  He had three strikeouts on the night.

Scott Diamond (0-1), who was making his 2012 debut, allowed a go-ahead run in the seventh and got the loss.

"Blacky pitched well tonight," manager Ron Gardenhire commented after the game.  "It is unfortunate we couldn't score some more runs tonight."

The Twins had seven hits on the night; three more than the Rays.  The also had a middle-inning lead when Brian Dozier drove in the go-ahead run in the fourth in his major league debut.  The Rays tied it up in the bottom half of the inning.

Justin Morneau continued his comeback with his most solid performance of the year, going three-for-three at the plate with a walk.

Rays starter Matt Moore (2-0) worked seven solid innings, allowing five hits and two runs.  He finished with four strikeouts and two walks.

Josh Lueke recorded his first major league save, working an inning and a third.  He had three strikeouts.

The Twins and Rays will face off again tomorrow night.  Rookie Liam Hendriks will make an important start for Minnesota, while Jeff Niemann will take the ball for Tampa Bay.
